The Preliminary Examination is a qualifying paper consisting of objective-type, multiple-choice questions.

Important Application Conditions
- Candidates can choose to apply for either one or both posts (T-3 and T-4) depending on their eligibility.
- Despite eligibility for multiple areas, applicants can select only one Functional Group/Sub-Group for the examination.
- The Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) will decide the ratio for shortlisting candidates from the Preliminary Examination to the Mains Examination.
