🚗 FASTag Bank Portability is Here! 'OneTag' Complete Guide for Central Government Employees 🇮🇳
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, recently launched 'OneTag', a NETC FASTag portability solution, at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026. This initiative allows users to switch their issuer bank without having to replace the existing physical tag affixed to their vehicle.
For Central Government employees constantly on the move due to transfers, official tours, or embarking on Leave Travel Concession (LTC) road trips, this is a major relief. 'OneTag'—a joint initiative of Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)—simplifies toll payments by letting you link your existing FASTag to your preferred salary or savings bank account. Following successful portability, both your existing Tag ID and vehicle registration number will remain completely unchanged.
🔄 How to Port Your FASTag: Step-by-Step Guide
The entire porting process is handled through NHAI's official mobile application. Follow these steps to easily switch your issuer bank:
- Initiate Porting: Log into the app and navigate to the 'OneTag - FASTag Porting' section.
- Verification: Enter your vehicle details to run eligibility checks and complete secure verification via OTP.
- Choose Your Bank: Select your preferred new issuer bank and provide the necessary customer consent.
- Complete Onboarding: The newly selected issuer bank will process the onboarding. Once approved, porting is complete!
⚠️ Important Rules to Remember
- Existing Balance is NOT Transferred: Under the portability framework, your old issuer bank is responsible for managing your previous wallet, processing any pending transactions, and issuing your final refund. You must contact them directly to retrieve your old balance.
- No Sticker Removal Required: You can continue using the exact same physical tag on your windshield with the new issuer bank.
- Legacy FASTags: Older generation FASTags can generally be ported only once.
- Cooling Period: For new-format FASTags, a standard 6-month cooling period applies before you can submit another porting request.
