Revision of GPRA Licence Fee for Central Government Employees (Effective July 2026)

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Directorate of Estates, has issued a crucial Office Memorandum regarding the revision of licence fees for residential accommodations. This update is significant for Central Government Employees occupying General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) and Departmental Pools across the country.

Key Highlights of the Order

  • Issuing Authority: The order was issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Directorate of Estates, on 17th July 2026.
  • Effective Date: The newly revised flat rates for the licence fee will be implemented strictly from 1st July 2026.
  • Governing Rule: The revision has been made in accordance with the provisions outlined in Rule 74 of the "Central Government General Pool Residential Accommodation Rules 2017".
  • Applicability: These revised rates are applicable to accommodations in the General Pool as well as Departmental Pools of various Ministries and Departments throughout India.

Important Exemptions

The revised licence fee rates do NOT apply to the following:

  • Substandard or unclassified accommodations under the Ministry of Defence.
  • Accommodations designated for service personnel of the Ministry of Defence.
  • Accommodations that fall under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways.

Additional Charges for Servant Quarters & Garages

In addition to the main accommodation flat rates, extra fees are to be recovered for independently allotted supplementary structures:

Action Required by Ministries and Departments

The Government has requested all Ministries and Departments to take immediate action to recover the revised licence fees in accordance with this order. The recovery applies to all eligible accommodations under their control across the entire country, effectively from 1st July 2026.
