The Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure, has officially released the updated Tables of Benefits for the Savings Fund under the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme-1980 (CGEGIS-1980). This recent Office Memorandum, dated May 11, 2026, and subsequently forwarded by the Department of Posts on July 28, 2026, provides the accumulated values of contributions for employees ceasing their membership during the second quarter of the year.

Key Highlights

  • Applicable Period: The newly issued tables are valid for the period from April 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026.
  • Applicable Interest Rate: The benefits have been calculated based on an interest rate of 7.1% per annum.
  • Compounding Method: The interest is compounded on a quarterly basis, as notified by the Department of Economic Affairs.
  • Calculation Authority: The tables of benefits have been meticulously worked out by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA).

Detailed Summary of the Two Benefit Tables

Maintaining the existing practice, the government has published two separate categories of tables to cater to different subscription models chosen by Central Government Employees.

Table Category Subscription Details
Table 1 (Revised Rate) Based on a subscription of Rs. 10 per month from January 1, 1982, to December 31, 1989, and an increased rate of Rs. 15 per month with effect from January 1, 1990, onwards.
Table 2 (Opted Out) Designed for employees who chose to opt out of the revised rate, maintaining a constant subscription of Rs. 10 per month throughout their service.

Important Points to Remember

  • Indian Audit and Accounts Department: For personnel serving in this department, the orders are issued strictly in consultation with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, as mandated by Article 148(5) of the Constitution.
  • Fund Allocation (1982 to 1987): During the period from January 1, 1982, to December 31, 1987, the contribution was split as 68.75% towards the Savings Fund and 31.25% towards the Insurance Fund.

Conclusion

The release of the CGEGIS-1980 Tables of Benefits is a routine but critical update for Central Government Employees nearing retirement or ceasing membership between April and June 2026. Beneficiaries and administrative offices are advised to refer to the official charts provided by the Ministry of Finance to accurately calculate the final payouts from the savings fund based on the prevailing 7.1% interest rate.
