Updates on Key Sectors: West Asia Developments (May 2026)
In response to the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia, the Government of India is taking proactive measures to ensure energy security, maritime safety, and the welfare of Indian nationals.
1. Fuel & Energy Supply Status
The government has implemented strategic measures to ensure that domestic fuel supplies remain uninterrupted despite international volatility.
- Price Stability: Retail pump prices for Petrol, Diesel, and domestic LPG (14.2 kg cylinders) remain unchanged.
- Calibrated Revisions: Price adjustments have been restricted to commercial, industrial, and premium segments (e.g., bulk diesel and ATF).

2. PNG Expansion & Alternate Fuels
To reduce pressure on LPG demand, the government is accelerating the transition to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and other fuels.
- Infrastructure Growth: Since March 2026, roughly 5.88 lakh PNG connections have been gasified, bringing the total created infrastructure to 8.56 lakh connections.
- National PNG Drive 2.0: This initiative has been extended until June 30, 2026, to maintain expansion momentum.
- Incentives: Companies like IGL and GAIL Gas are offering incentives for new domestic and commercial connections.
- Coal & Kerosene: An additional allocation of 48,000 KL of kerosene has been provided to States/UTs to ease LPG demand.
