Detailed 5-Stage Recruitment Process

Selection is entirely based on transparent merit ranking mapped across these distinct stages:

1️⃣ First Stage CBT (CBT-1) - Screening Test

  • Nature: Purely a screening test; marks do not count towards the final merit list.
  • Structure: 75 objective multiple-choice questions across a 60-minute round.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deduction for each incorrect answer.
  • Section Pass Thresholds: UR/EWS - 40%, OBC-NCL/SC - 30%, ST - 25%.
  • Shortlist Ratio: Qualified candidates matching 15 times the vacancy volume advance to CBT-2.

2️⃣ Second Stage CBT (CBT-2) - Selection Main Core

  • Structure: 175 Questions across a continuous block of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Part-A (100 Qs, 90 Mins): Covers Math, General Intelligence, and Basic Science & Engineering. This section alone determines advancement mapping and final merit.
  • Part-B (75 Qs, 60 Mins): Trade-syllabus specific testing. Strictly qualifying in nature, requiring a flat 35% pass mark for all candidates.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd deduction per error across both Part-A and Part-B.

3️⃣ Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

  • Shortlisting: Calls candidates equal to 8 times the vacancy limit based on CBT-2 Part-A performance.
  • Negative Marking: Consists of zero negative marking.
  • Passing Requirements: Must score a minimum standard T-Score of 42 marks across every individual test battery block.
  • Mandatory Document: Downloadable Medical Declaration Reports (Annexure VIII-A & B) must be handed over on exam day.

4️⃣ Document Verification (DV)

  • Ranking Allocation Matrix: Final merit is calculated taking a 50% score weightage from CBT-2 Part-A, combined with a 50% score weightage from the CBAT segment.
  • Action Point: Verification of original academic, technical, age, and category certificates. Missing items yield instant rejection.

5️⃣ Medical Examination (ME)

  • Action: Exhaustive visual and physical check conducted by official Railway Medical Authorities to confirm compliance with A-1 standards before active placement.
