Instructions regarding credit of first pension/family pension - CPAO

Pension Payment Update (April 2026)

Department of Expenditure, Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO)

In a new Office Memorandum dated April 28, 2026, the CPAO has issued strict reminders to all banks regarding the processing of first-time pension payments.

Key Instructions for Banks:

  • No Physical Wait: Banks must credit the first pension immediately based on the e-PPO and e-SSA without waiting for physical copies.
  • No Life Certificates Needed: Banks are prohibited from insisting on a Life Certificate or the physical presence of the pensioner for the first credit.
  • Avoid Hardship: The order addresses reports of banks still forcing pensioners to visit branches in person, which violates existing rules.
  • Strict Compliance: All Central Pension Processing Centres (CPPCs) are directed to ensure their branches follow these guidelines immediately.
