Update on CHSS Hospital Accommodation Eligibility
The Department of Atomic Energy, Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), issued an official endorsement on May 14, 2026, regarding the reclassification of hospital accommodation and bed eligibility under the Contributory Health Service Scheme (CHSS). This update is based on a DAE Office Memorandum issued on May 08, 2026.
The matter was recently re-examined by the Apex Governing Body for CHSS during its 5th meeting held on March 16, 2026. The Apex Body recommended a new classification system for hospital accommodation based on the Pay Level of employees. This new decision officially supersedes the previous guidelines from the OM dated April 13, 2023.
Revised Entitlements
The revised hospital accommodation classifications for serving and retired employees are as follows:
- Upto Pay Level-8: Four beds in a room with a common toilet and bathroom.
- Pay Level-9 to Level-13A: Two beds in a room with an attached toilet and bathroom.
- Pay Level-14 and above: A single-bed AC room with an attached toilet and bathroom, subject to availability at the referral hospital.
These new rules are effective from the date of the Memorandum's issue. Respective beneficiaries are advised to contact the CHSS Office to update their CHSS cards accordingly.
