The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has released an Office Memorandum (No. 5-1(17)/2008-PD) regarding the invitation for nominations for the prestigious Ashoka Chakra Series of Gallantry Awards to be announced on August 15, 2026. This initiative, directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to recognize and incentivize acts of exceptional bravery and self-sacrifice.

Eligibility and Guidelines
- Who Can Apply: Civilian citizens from all walks of life, personnel of Police Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) are eligible.
- Incident Period: Recommendations should primarily cover acts performed between July 2025 and January 2026. Acts performed before August 15, 2024, will not be considered.
- Documentation: Nominations must include a detailed sequence of the gallant act, corroborated by documents such as an FIR or police report.
- Verification: A certificate verifying the character and antecedents of the recommended person is mandatory.
