General Election & Bye-Elections 2026: Paid Holiday Notification
The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) has issued guidelines regarding paid holidays and special leave for the upcoming General Elections to Legislative Assemblies and various bye-elections scheduled for April 2026.
1. General Election Schedule
Central Government offices and industrial establishments will remain closed on the following polling dates in the respective states:

2. Bye-Elections for 8 Assembly Constituencies
Bye-polls are scheduled for specific constituencies across several states:
- April 9, 2026 (Thursday): Goa (Ponda), Karnataka (Bagalkot and Davanagere South), Nagaland (Koridang-ST), and Tripura (Dharmanagar).
- April 23, 2026 (Thursday): Gujarat (Umreth) and Maharashtra (Rahuri and Baramati).
3. Key Leave Guidelines
- Office Closure: All Central Government Offices (including Industrial Establishments) in notified areas will be closed on the day of the poll for General Elections.
- Special Casual Leave: For bye-elections, employees who are bona-fide voters in the relevant constituency are entitled to special casual leave on polling day.
- Outstation Employees: Employees residing in a polling constituency but working in an office located outside that area are also eligible for special casual leave.
