New LPG Regulation 2026: Mandatory Surrender for PNG Users

NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 14th March, 2026

S.O. 1333(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 (10 of 1955), the Central Government hereby issues the following order to further amend the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000:

1. (1) This Order shall be known as the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026.

(2) It becomes effective immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette.

2. Under Clause 3 of the original order, the following regulations are now inserted:

"(5) No person possessing a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection and a domestic LPG connection shall retain the LPG connection or accept refills from any Government oil company or distributor. Such individuals are required to immediately surrender their domestic LPG connection."

"(6) Any person who already has a Piped Natural Gas connection is prohibited from obtaining a new domestic LPG connection or taking refills of LPG cylinders from any Government oil company."

Prohibited Activities for Oil Companies

Amendment to Schedule-I (Item 13): Government Oil companies are strictly prohibited from providing domestic LPG connections or supplying cylinder refills to any consumer who already owns a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection.
