India Achieves Record Coal Stocks: National Energy Security Update

The Ministry of Coal has announced that India is fully prepared for any unprecedented surge in energy demand. For the 2025-26 financial year, domestic coal production and supply levels have consistently outpaced national consumption.

- Growth in Pithead Stocks: Coal India Limited (CIL) stocks rose from 106.78 MT in April 2025 to 121.39 MT as of March 9, 2026.
- Diversified Reserves: Current holdings include 6.07 MT at SCCL mines, 15.12 MT at captive/commercial mines, and 14 MT in transit.
- Non-Regulated Sector Support: Supply to the Non-Regulated Sector has seen a significant year-on-year increase of nearly 14%.
- Record Totaling: Combined stocks at mines and in transit have reached a first-time high of 156.58 MT.
Ensuring Continuous Availability
Supported by the Indian Railways, coal production continues at a steady pace to build mine-end stocks and meet all consumer requirements. The Ministry continues to facilitate stable operations through close performance monitoring and stakeholder engagement.
