Clarification on Compassionate Appointment for Married Daughters
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued a significant clarification regarding the eligibility of married daughters for appointments on compassionate grounds. This follows an inquiry from the ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN) in Hyderabad.

In accordance with the guidelines from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT):
- The primary objective is to provide employment to a dependent family member of a government servant who has died while in service.
- It also applies if the employee has retired on medical grounds, leaving the family in an immediate financial crisis.
Eligibility of Married Daughters
The circular clarifies that a married daughter can indeed be considered for a compassionate appointment subject to specific conditions:
- She must have been completely dependent on the government employee at the time of their death or medical retirement.
- She must provide support for the maintenance and livelihood of other dependent members of the family.
