Guidelines for Establishment of 'Composite Skill Labs' in CBSE schools

Central Board of Secondary Education
(An Autonomous Organization Under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India)
Subject: Guidelines for Establishment of 'Composite Skill Labs' in CBSE schools.

In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, skill and vocational education has become a mandatory component of school education. To support this shift, CBSE has issued guidelines for the mandatory establishment of Composite Skill Labs in affiliated schools.

Infrastructure Requirements

Schools are advised to choose one of the following lab configurations:

  • Option 1: One Composite Skill Lab of 600 sq. ft. area for classes VI-XII.
  • Option 2: Two separate labs of 400 sq. ft. area each (one for classes VI-X and another for classes XI-XII).
Implementation Timeline
  • New Schools: Establishing a Composite Skill Lab with necessary equipment is now a mandatory requirement for all schools seeking fresh affiliation with CBSE.
  • Existing Schools: Currently affiliated schools must establish these labs within three years of the original circular, specifically by 22nd August 2027.
Operational Guidelines

The Board has released a comprehensive guidelines booklet covering infrastructure, tool specifications, and safety norms. While specific tool lists are provided, schools may adapt them based on their readiness and specific requirements.
