COUNCIL OF SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH (CSIR)
Important Clarification on Upper Age Relaxation
Office Memorandum No. 5-1 (151)/2012-PD | Dated: 05.03.2026
The CSIR Headquarters has issued a definitive statement regarding the recruitment of Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) through direct recruitment. This comes after several CSIR Laboratories and Institutes sought clarification on whether existing employees could claim age benefits.
Key Decision:
The Competent Authority has clarified that there is no provision for granting upper age relaxation to the following candidates for direct recruitment to MTS posts:
- Departmental candidates.
- Candidates employed under the Central Government.
- Candidates employed under State Governments.
- Employees of Autonomous Bodies.
Governing Rules
According to the memorandum, these recruitment matters will continue to be governed strictly by the Recruitment Rules for the post of MTS and the previous CSIR letter No. 5-1(151)/2012-PD dated 02.07.2013.
Additionally, age relaxation will only be admissible to specific categories that are explicitly mentioned in those recruitment rules.
