Overview of the Study
The Foundational Learning Study (FLS) 2026 will be conducted by PARAKH toward the end of March 2026. The primary objective is to assess the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) competencies of students at the conclusion of Grade 3.
Key details of the 2026 study include:
- Digital Transition: The assessment is moving from the previous OMR-based (paper-pen) mode used in 2022 to a tablet-based digital platform.
- Improved Efficiency: The digital shift is intended to enhance data quality and ensure more timely reporting.
- Scope: The study will encompass over 10,000 schools and more than 1,00,000 students across 776 districts in 36 States/UTs.
- School Types: Participating institutions include Government (Central and State), Government-aided, and Private schools selected via sampling.
Implementation & Coordination
Technical guidance will be provided by PARAKH at NCERT at the national level. State and UT level coordination will be managed by various bodies, including:
- Samagra Shiksha
- SCERTs, SIEs, and DIETs
- District Education Offices
Requirements for Schools
Heads of CBSE-affiliated schools are requested to:
- Ensure sampled schools remain open and functional on assessment dates.
- Provide full cooperation to the deputed assessment teams.
