The Inquiry:

The Hon’ble MP Shri Anil Kumar Yadav Mandadi raised a significant concern regarding the income criteria for the OBC Non-Creamy Layer. He pointed out that the income limit was last revised in 2017—over seven years ago—and asked whether the Government is considering a revision from the current limit of ₹8 lakhs per annum in response to growing demands.

The Government's Response:

In a formal reply, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri B.L. Verma, clarified the current status of the policy:

  • The last revision from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh per annum was issued by the DoP&T on September 13, 2017.
  • While the review of the "Creamy Layer" for OBCs is an ongoing process conducted periodically, the Government stated:

"At present, there is no proposal for further revision of the income limit."
