The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a directive regarding the upcoming close of the financial year. Per notification No. CO.DGBA.GBD.No.S922/42-01-029/2025-2026, all Agency Banks are advised to keep branches dealing with Government receipts and payments open on March 31, 2026.
Despite this date being a public holiday for Mahavir Janmakalyanak, the decision ensures that all Government transactions for the FY 2025-26 are processed and accounted for within the same financial year.
Key Objectives:
- Ensure all Government business transactions are processed and reported in the current Financial Year.
- Arrive at an accurate final cash balance for the Government of India as of March 31, 2026.
- Maintain transparency in Government receipts and payments.
