CBSE Inter-Generational Bonding Guidelines 2026

Bridging the Gap: CBSE’s New Initiative for Inter-Generational Bonding

In an era where technology often moves faster than conversation, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is taking a heartwarming step to reconnect students with their roots. Based on new recommendations from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, schools are being encouraged to transform into spaces where wisdom meets youth.

The initiative, officially titled Guidelines for Promoting Inter-Generational Bonding in Schools, aims to foster respect and emotional intelligence by involving senior citizens directly in the school environment.

What’s Changing in Schools?

  • Bringing Grandparents to the Foreground: Schools are advised to invite grandparents to major national celebrations and commemorative days, such as Independence Day or Bal Diwas. The goal is to build a deeper emotional connection and pass on core values to the younger generation.
  • Active Bonding through Walkathons: To help combat the isolation and loneliness often felt by the elderly, the board suggests organizing "Walkathons" where students and their grandparents can walk side-by-side.
  • Dignity and Documentation: All activities must be carried out with the utmost respect and inclusivity. Schools are also required to keep records of these events and may need to notify relevant authorities in advance.

This move , marks a significant shift toward holistic education that values community and elder care as much as academic achievement.
