The Tamil Nadu Government has implemented the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS) to fulfill a 20-year-long demand of government employees and teachers by providing benefits under the old pension scheme.
📌 Overview of TAPS
Government employees are the wheels of the state machinery, carrying welfare schemes from the government to the common people. Recognizing their invaluable contribution, the Tamil Nadu Government under Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin has decided to implement the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS).
🎁 Key Benefits Under TAPS
1. Pension & Retirement Benefits
Benefits equivalent to the old pension scheme with guaranteed pension amount upon retirement
Enhanced retirement gratuity increased from ₹20 Lakhs to ₹25 Lakhs
Health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 Lakhs for pensioners
Pongal festival bonus increased from ₹500 to ₹1,000
2. Life Insurance & Protection
A unique scheme providing extraordinary life protection:
- Accident Death Benefit: ₹1 Crore
- Natural Death Benefit: ₹10 Lakhs
- Life Insurance Coverage: Provided under the scheme
3. Family Support Benefits

5. Leave & Work Benefits
- ✅ Earned Leave Encashment: From October 1, 2025, employees can surrender and get cash for earned leave
- ✅ Maternity Leave (Women Employees): Extended from 9 months to 12 months
- ✅ No Temporary Suspension: Disciplinary action no longer results in temporary suspension on retirement day
- ✅ Dearness Allowance (DA): Regularly provided in line with central government from 2022 onwards

Dearness allowance resumed from 2022 matching central government rates
Option to convert earned leave to cash from October 2025
Special insurance for accidental and natural deaths
