Proposed Recruitment Rules for Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO) - 2025
The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) has issued a notice inviting comments on the proposed revision of Recruitment Rules (RRs) for the post of Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO). This revision follows the publication of Recruitment Rules for Senior Accounts Officers and aims to streamline the promotion path for AAOs.

Eligibility & Recruitment Method
1. Age Limit
For direct recruits, the age limit is not exceeding 30 years. Government servants may receive a relaxation of up to five years in accordance with Central Government orders.
2. Educational Qualifications
- Essential: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University.
- Desirable: Commerce Graduate, or holding ICWA/CA/CS from recognized institutes.
3. Method of Recruitment
Vacancies will be filled in the following order of priority:
- Promotion
- Deputation/Absorption (if promotion fails)
- Direct Recruitment (if both above fail)
Promotion Criteria & Feeder Grades
Departmental candidates must have successfully completed their probation and passed the Subordinate Accounts Service (SAS) Examination. Key feeder grades include:

Probation and Training
- Direct Recruits: 2-year probation period. Must pass the Subordinate Accounts Service Examination for confirmation.
- Training: All direct recruits must undergo two weeks of mandatory training at a Regional Training Centre or other recognized institutes like NIFM or ISTM.
- Group 'B' Promotees: No probation period is required for those promoted within Group 'B'.
