Engagement of Retired Central Government Servants as Consultants
Assistant Section Officer Level - December 2025
An office memorandum dated 04 December 2025 from the Department of Personnel & Training has extended the application deadline from 28 November 2025 to 15 December 2025.

Duration: 1 Year (Extendable up to 5 years from retirement)
- Must have retired as Assistant Section Officer or equivalent level from any Ministry/Department of Central Government
- Retirement level: Level 7 in 7th CPC Pay Matrix
- Must be a graduate
- Proficient in Computer applications (MS Word and Excel)
- Should not be from Stenographer background
- Sound knowledge of Service Rules, Regulations, Noting & Drafting
- Experience in Establishment/General Administration and Legal matters
- Knowledge of Cash and Accounts
- Working knowledge of computer applications for day-to-day office functioning
For OPS Retirees: Last basic pay drawn at retirement minus basic pension
For NPS Retirees: 30% of last basic pay deducted from last basic pay
Fixed amount not exceeding the rate applicable at the time of retirement. No TA/DA for joining or completion; TA/DA admissible only for official work-related travel as per last entitlement.
Paid leave at the rate of 1.5 days for each complete month of service. Accumulation beyond calendar year may not be allowed. Compensatory off may be granted for work on Saturdays/Sundays/Gazetted holidays.
- Report to the office of Regional Director, SSC (SR), Chennai
- Assist in examination-related work for various exams conducted by SSC
- Conduct venue audits at various exam centers in the Southern Region
- Oversee the conduct of examinations
- Handle work related to Establishment/General Administration
- Manage Cash and Accounts matters
- Attend to Legal matters as assigned
- Perform any other work assigned from time to time by Regional Director
Attendance: Bio-metric system mandatory
Holidays: May be called for duty on Saturdays/Sundays/Gazetted holidays without extra remuneration
Only basic facilities/infrastructure. Not provided: Transport, Telephone/Internet at residence, stenographic/clerical support.

- Copy of Last Pay Certificate
- Copy of ID card (if retiring by last application date)
- Copy of PAN card and AADHAR card
- Copy of last two years' APARS (Annual Performance Appraisal Reports)

- Applications will be shortlisted based on experience and qualifications
- Interview will be conducted for shortlisted applicants
- SSC (SR) reserves the right to reject any application without assigning reasons
Consultants shall not represent or give opinion/advice in any matter adverse to SSC's interests. No other assignment permitted during the engagement period.
- All information, data, and intellectual property rights remain with SSC
- No disclosure of confidential information to third parties without written consent
- Must sign Non-Disclosure Undertaking (Annexure-III)
- Must surrender all records upon contract expiry
Services may be terminated if:
- Inability to accomplish assigned work
- Quality of work unsatisfactory
- Failure in timely achievement of milestones
- Lack of honesty and integrity
- Completion of 5 years after superannuation
- Any false undertakings or misleading information
Notice Period: 15 days' notice in writing from either side (may be curtailed/extended). Immediate termination possible for misconduct/insubordination.
Income Tax and other applicable taxes will be deducted at source as per prevailing rules. TDS certificates will be issued.
SSC is not responsible for any loss, accident, damage, or injury suffered by the consultant during the engagement period.
