Subject: Engagement of Retired Central Government Servants on contract basis as Consultants (ASO Level) in the Staff Selection Commission, Southern Region (SR), Chennai.
Opportunity Overview
Applications are invited from retired Central Government Assistant Section Officers (ASO) or equivalent for engagement as Consultants at the ASO level in the SSC (SR), Chennai on a contractual basis. This recruitment aims to form a panel for short-term appointment of up to two consultants.
Eligibility Criteria
- Retired as Assistant Section Officer or equivalent from any Ministry/Department or its attached/subordinate offices of Central Govt.
- Must be a graduate and proficient in MS Word and Excel.
- Should have sound knowledge of service rules, noting/drafting, establishment (Genl./Admn.) and legal matters.
- Experience in cash/accounts and computer applications.
- Should NOT be from Stenographer background.
- Retired at Pay Level 7 or 8 (7th CPC) from offices in Chennai.
- Should not have attained the age of 63 years as on closing date (28.11.2025).
Period and Nature of Engagement
- The initial contract is for one year, extendable up to a maximum of 5 years after superannuation based on performance and requirement.
- Full-time engagement; consultants cannot take up any other assignment during the contract period.
Remuneration
- Pensioners: Fixed monthly amount = Last Pay Drawn – Basic Pension (no DA/HRA or accommodation).
- NPS Retirees: Fixed monthly amount = Last Basic Pay – 30% of Last Basic Pay (no increment during contract).
- Transport allowance (not exceeding the last rate at retirement) is admissible. No TA/DA on joining/completion; work-related travel as per last entitlement.
Leave and Working Hours
- Leave: 1.5 days per completed month of service (unutilized leave lapses at year-end).
- Office Hours: 9:30 am to 6 pm on working days (may be called on holidays if required; no extra remuneration for this).

Applications must be accompanied by copies of retirement order, PPO, last pay certificate, ID card (if retiring), PAN/AADHAR card, and last two years' APARs.
Selection Procedure
- Shortlisting based on experience and qualifications.
- Interview for shortlisted candidates.
- Engagement is purely on contract; SSC reserves the right to reject any application without assigning reasons.
Terms & Conditions (Annexure-II Highlights)
- Engagement can be terminated with 15 days’ notice from either side.
- No right to employment or regularization after contract.
- Consultants must sign a confidentiality and non-disclosure undertaking (Annexure-III).
