What is This Recognition?

In October 2025, the Department of Personnel & Training issued an office memorandum recognizing the Ju-Jitsu Association of India as an official National Sports Federation. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports granted this recognition on July 29, 2021, with the requirement that the association comply with the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011, and other relevant guidelines.

Why Does This Matter for Government Employees?

Central government employees have special provisions and incentives for achieving excellence in sporting events of national and international importance. These incentives were first outlined in a Department office memorandum dated July 16, 1985. With Ju-Jitsu now added to the list of recognized National Sports Federations (at Serial No. 66), tournaments and championships conducted by the Ju-Jitsu Association of India are now officially recognized as events of national importance.

Key Point: Tournaments and championships conducted by the Ju-Jitsu Association of India are now officially treated as events of national importance for central government employees.

What Benefits Are Available?

Government employees participating in recognized national sports events are eligible for incentives and facilities for achieving excellence. The exact benefits include provisions for leave, financial assistance, and other support measures as per the 1985 guidelines. These incentives apply to tournaments and championships conducted by recognized National Sports Federations like the newly recognized Ju-Jitsu Association of India.

Historical Context

This recognition follows a series of departmental clarifications:

  • July 16, 1985: Original office memorandum establishing incentives for excellence in sports
  • January 30, 1989: Clarification on the applicability of these provisions
  • March 18, 2008: Updated list of recognized National Sports Federations was circulated
  • October 2025: Ju-Jitsu Association added to the official list at Serial No. 66

What Does This Mean Practically?

If you are a central government employee and participate in Ju-Jitsu tournaments or championships conducted by the Ju-Jitsu Association of India, your participation and achievements are now recognized at the national level. This means you can access the same facilities and incentives available to other government employees competing in recognized national sports events.
