Implementation of Unified Pension Scheme under NPS in Department of Posts – Option for One-Time one-way Switch option from UPS to NPS.
Department of Posts informs employees that the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare has notified the Central Civil Services (Implementation of the Unified Pension Scheme under the National Pension System) Rules, 2025. The rules include a one-time, one-way switch option from UPS to NPS under specified conditions.
PFRDA permits physical submission of UPS requests to Nodal Offices till 30.09.2025
PFRDA/Ministry of Finance has said that if a subscriber cannot submit the UPS request online (CRA) due to technical issues or platform unavailability, they may submit a duly filled physical application to their concerned Nodal Office on or before 30.09.2025; such requests will be processed per procedure.
September 30, 2025 to be the last date for eligible employees and past retirees under NPS to opt for UPS
The Department of Financial Services (DFS) reminds eligible employees and past retirees under NPS that 30th September 2025 is the last date to opt for UPS. DFS also notes a one-time, one-way switch from UPS back to NPS is available under specified conditions (cannot be reversed).
THE CCS (IMPLEMENTATION OF UPS UNDER NPS) RULES, 2025- OPTION FOR VOLUNTARY RETIREMENT FROM SERVICE
The CCS Rules, 2025 provide that UPS subscribers may opt for voluntary retirement after completion of 20 years of service (with assured payout prorated until 25 years of qualifying service). Other retirement benefits and family payout provisions are detailed in the rules.
CCS(UPS) Rules, 2025 - ONE TIME SWITCH OPTION UNDER UPS
The rules notify a one-time switch option from UPS to NPS for those who opted for UPS within stipulated timelines (by 30.09.2025). The switch may be exercised only once, at least one year before superannuation or three months before VRS; the government differential contribution (4%) will be worked out and credited at the time of exit.
